Kendra Jean Brand

Brand’s first experience on stage was a bit hectic: she was asked to host a show on short notice. “I quickly wrote a five-minute set and tried it out. I had an open mic on Wednesday and did it on Friday” she said. An Albuquerque optician by day the gig ended up turning into a side hustle for Brand. “Ever since then I haven’t been able to stop” she says. With performances as often as five times per month at various venues throughout town including The Guild and breweries such as Tractor Brand believes being a woman in a male-dominated realm helps her stand out. But more than that she says it’s her unique style. “It’s a mixture of being kind of dark and cutesy at the same time and trying to find the balance of telling the audience my deepest darkest secrets while making puns” she says.
