Marching Band
El Dorado High School

Eldorado High School’s marching band has a deep and colorful legacy. The group began when the school opened its doors in 1970 and today boasts the city’s top-rated and largest contingent (160 students). The ensemble also includes three concert bands three jazz bands pep bands and a color guard. The students needless to say take a lot of pride in their music. “There’s a tradition of excellence in all the programs at Eldorado not just fine arts” says band director Brad Dubbs. “There just seems to be this sense of willingness to excel.” And that they do. The squad has been a consistent finalist in New Mexico’s state marching competition and this year took fifth place (highest of any Albuquerque school). They’ve marched at Disneyland in Denver and in Dallas among other places. And as with any group achieving ongoing excellence there is continuity at Eldorado: Dubbs in his sixth year is assisted by his friend of 25 years Steve Snowden who has been the group’s assistant director for 16 years. And they’re both helped by the band’s former director John Sanks. Talk about an ensemble.
